Read MoreBrothers Ewan and Robbie Moore, also known as BIGHEADMODE, are delighted to announce the release of their debut album ‘Return! Of The Hellcat’. The Birmingham / London based multi-instrumentalists chart an eclectic course, traversing intimate lo-fi broken beat, through break-neck 70’s fusion, punctuated throughout by a cast of rising stars within the new generation of UK jazz.
On Return! Of The Hellcat, cosmic analogue synths wrestle with raw visceral drums amongst a barrage of chopped and screwed samples, creating a new age sound with a deeply human and familiar sentiment, resulting in an enchanting sonic landscape built upon an unwavering fraternal groove.
Forged in the fires of South London’s blossoming jazz scene, the duo began their project with year-long residency ‘BIGHEADBASEMENT’ in the heart of Peckham, joined by the likes of Muva Of Earth, Quinn Oulton and Tom Ford. These jam sessions, combined with an intense post-pandemic writing binge, birthed two DIY EP’s that featured hypnotic sax from Xhosa Cole and silver-tongued lyrics from Ant Lavelle, to name just two high profile collaborators endorsing the duo’s burgeoning talent. These initial exploratory records documented for the first time the lifelong obsession with music the brothers share, and sets the scene for their debut album.
BIGHEADMODE forge a whole host of synergetic collaborations throughout their new project: from SAHRA’s yearning vocal stylings on ‘Sweaty’ to Tom Ford’s anxious and angular guitar solo on ‘Marvin The Martian’, the record is elevated throughout by an evolving ensemble of featured musicians, also including Plumm, Nye Banfield and NeOne The Wonderer.
Keys player, composer and producer Robbie Moore has been playing piano for twenty+ years. His work as a session musician includes international tours with artists as diverse as Charlotte Church to The Teskey Brothers. As a songwriter/producer, his credits include several acclaimed releases and plays on BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 6 music and Jazz FM. Drummer, writer and exemplary musician Ewan Moore has performed with the likes of Alabaster dePlume, Jamie Isaac, SCORS, Max Winter and Muva Of Earth at leading events such as All Points East, with music being featured on platforms such as Brumradio and Worldwide FM along the way.
Now with Return! Of the Hellcat, BIGHEADMODE are destined for the higher stratospheres of the creative industries, with their accomplished and original work setting a high standard for the future of UK music.

“The new album is more conversational, outward-looking and even funny. It paints a more peaceful and, by Antonoff’s own admission, mature picture of love.” THE GUARDIAN
“Bleachers is a bold, upbeat record – all unexpected sax lines, thwacking snares and lyrics that are somehow both wry and surprisingly earnest.” GQ MAGAZINE
“It’s not merely the sound of ‘Bleachers’ that distinguishes the album but Antonoff’s newly expansive approach to writing for the band.” LOS ANGELES TIMES
“Jack Antonoff has almost single-handedly made modern pop into a glorious safe space; an expansive, sensitive, creative biosphere.” ROLLING STONE

This statement may have been true in the past but after seeing the final lineup for 2024, I question if this is still the case?

Read MoreIt’s a bit of a strange venue as I roll up on a cold and wet Saturday night to a location you are more likely to take your granny for a nice Sunday lunch than watch live bands. But that said, its a really nice setup, a nice bar and a lovely big room. Above all, its a sell out and that says so much about the real value of these grassroots gigs.

Tonight was one of those ‘pinch me’ moments, having seen Skindred entertain the masses at Download Festival and Sonisphere Festival in the past, it was a rare treat to see them performing at a much more intimate venue such as The Foundry in Torquay which isn’t that far from Benji Webb’s beloved Newport in Welsh Wales. The audience knew they were in for a treat with gig-goers travelling in from the far corners of Devon and Cornwall to be in the English Riviera for what promised to be a kick-ass show.
